2020 CAMPAIGN AWARDS

2020 Campaign Awards

United Way of Greater Lafayette recognizes outstanding volunteers and corporate partners each January during the Annual Meeting and Awards Celebration. 2020 was a year full of challenge and change, and things had to be adjusted. With an all virtual event we honored the hard work of many individuals and companies across the community.

Henriott Group

Employee Campaign Coordinator of the Year

This award recognizes an individual whose creativity and dedication translated into positive results for their company’s United Way campaign.  Areas such as increasing awareness, increasing participation, and years of service are areas of consideration for this award. The team at Valley Oaks Health worked diligently to make a fun and engaging campaign despite the many COVID-19 restrictions that existed.  The activities highlighted how a United Way Campaign can contribute to the overall morale of employees while providing critical support to the community.  This year’s campaign at Valley Oaks was highlighted by over 20 managers, including CEO Tom Gilliom, getting a pie in the face.

Bill DeFouw Campaign Leadership Award

This award honors the memory of Bill DeFouw who was a leader in promoting United Way.  It recognizes an individual who sets an example through his or her role as an active campaigner. Julie Cole has been a steadfast supporter of United Way and she has recruited, trained, and energized campaign teams at SIA for many years.  Julie’s unwavering commitment to helping the residents of this community through the United Way of Greater Lafayette led the SIA Associate and corporate gifts to a 9% increase in giving in 2021. When it comes to sharing her recipe for success, she consistently gives credit to her team, but we know the critical role she plays in the success of the campaign.  Additionally, Julie has served another year on the Campaign Cabinet helping us find other companies that can run United Way Campaigns both in Tippecanoe County and the region.  She is a fantastic leader who cares deeply for the employees of SIA and our community.

2020 Gary Henriott Community Impact Leadership Award

The Gary Henriott Community Impact Award honors a community member or organization who exemplifies service and leadership to improve our community.  It is given to an individual or group who has demonstrated a commitment to action and made an impact to causes, programs or projects that create lasting change in Greater Lafayette. Thomas Godwin deserved the award because he helped with the VITA program for six years. He strengthened United Ways existing relationship with Purdue in order to allow for increased community enrichment. He led to an increase in student volunteers due to his passion for volunteerism and teaching. He is passionate about helping the community and passionate about teaching tax class. We are able to serve the community through this program today as a result of Thomas’ involvement in the program.

Board President's Awards

This year, Tommy Sors presented the United Way’s President Award to Angelique Zobitz and Wendy Cummins, who have led the formation of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in 2020 (DEI).  Through their dedicated effort, collaborative spirit, energetic enthusiasm and staunch commitment to the DEI Committee formation, they have organized the group to develop the vision and mission to educate, equip and activate community members and partners to create an equitable, respectful and opportunity-filled community for everyone in Greater Lafayette.  Because of their non-wavering determination as Co-Chairs of the DEI Committee, the group has crafted a strategic plan that will help meet these most critical needs in our community.  Angelique and Wendy are true models of unity in citizenry by which their passion for change through leadership can forge a better way to address basic human morality.
