COVID-19 Economic Relief Initiative

APPLICATION & GUIDELINES​

Introduction

In March 2020, Lilly Endowment, Inc. announced a $30 million grant to the Indiana United Ways. Montgomery County United Fund applied to receive some of the grant to bring relief to our community’s most vulnerable individuals and families impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. The goal of the COVID-19 Economic Relief Initiative is to rapidly deploy resources to local non-profit organizations that are offering emergency relief to families and individuals in need and to those who are looking for innovative means to provide support networks for those who need them the most. We were awarded the grant, totally $225,000 in July 2020 which was distributed to provide critical and necessary services to those who have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Montgomery County United Fund, in partnership with United Way of Greater Lafayette, receive a second COVID-19 Economic Relief Initiative grant for $112,525 from Indiana United Ways, the state professional association of which Montgomery County United Fund is a member. The grant will be used to support our community partnerships and relationships to better meet COVID-related basic needs aligned with the social determinants of health as defined by the CDC.

The grant is one of 47 grants that Indiana United Ways is making to member organizations and community foundations through the initiative, which was made possible by funding Indiana United Ways received from Lilly Endowment Inc.

Agency Eligibility

Any organization wishing to submit a proposal must:

  • Serve residents of Montgomery County

  • Have a 501(c)3 status  

  • Human and Social Service focused nonprofits in good standing with the IRS (designation letter required)

Funding Priorities

  • Operational Support for health and human service focused nonprofits that provide basic/essential needs programming or support that allows individuals access to the programming

  • Immediate Basic and Essential Needs:
       – Healthcare Access and Quality
       – Education Access and Quality
       – Social and Community Context
       – Economic Stability
       – Neighborhood and Built Environment

Application Process

Step 1: Review Covid-19 Response Funding Priorities to determine if your request aligns.

Step 2: Complete and submit an application and project budget to Gina Haile at gina@montgomeryunitedfund.org

Deadline

This grant will have a rolling deadline until the funds are expended.  

Review Process

All completed applications will be assessed through a review process by a committee made up of community volunteers representing Montgomery County United Fund, Montgomery County Community Foundation, and other community leaders. An agency may be contacted if additional information or clarification is needed.

Fund Distribution and Oversight

United Way of Greater Lafayette will manage the fund distribution process and provide oversight of the funds reporting requirements.  All final funding allocations will be approved by the United Way of Greater Lafayette Board of Directors.
