Purdue legend, Drew Brees, pushes for community support of United Way of Greater Lafayette

As United Way of Greater Lafayette’s annual campaign continues, so does the effort to raise awareness about the growing needs in our community. This growing need is the reason behind the $5 million campaign goal for 2022. Back in September, Campaign Chair Jim Smith had the opportunity to talk with someone who knows how to use their platform for good; former New Orleans Saints and Purdue University quarterback, Drew Brees. Smith is keenly aware that Drew and his wife Brittany both know how to help a community in need. During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Brees family helped the city of New Orleans come through devastating hurricane damage. Because of this rich history of giving back, Smith felt hopeful that Brees would do what he could to help spread awareness about United Way and the need in the Greater Lafayette community.

Brees recorded a forty-second video where he asks those who can, to support United Way of Greater Lafayette however possible. Coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, the need has never been greater and the challenges to gather adequate funding are just as great. Brees urged the community to donate to help with mental health services, addiction, housing challenges, and so many other causes and initiatives that United Way supports.

You can support these causes and more by donating to United Way of Greater Lafayette’s 2022 Campaign at www.uwlafayette.org/donate.

United Way thanks Drew Brees for his time and effort in helping bring awareness to those in need in the Greater Lafayette area.
